Your blog posts are a great way to engage your audience on your WordPress website
Setup the comments feature and protect them against spam
A blog on your website is one of the best ways to engage your audience with high-quality content.
To engage your audience even more, we would recommend to provide an opportunity to leave a comment and participate to the discussion, which, in turn, will create a community around your platform.
How to setup comments on posts
You can simply check “allow comments” on a post under the “Discussion” section. If you don’t see it, click the “Screen Options” on the top right corner and activate it.
You will find more options under Settings > Discussion where you’ll be able to decide if you need to moderate comments before they appear, if people need to be logged in before they can comment and more.
How to protect your website against spam
We’re currently using “Disqus” but we’ll be moving soon to use “Akismet” solely.
We find that “Disqus” is very cumbersome to use and does not provide a seamless experience for discussions.
Akismet, in comparison, has been developed by the very founders of WordPress itself and provides a seamless experience for people to contribute to the discussion while discarding spam in a very efficient way.
You can signup in a couple of clicks, and find out which plan is best for you. The free plan is largely enough for a simple blog but should you need more features, there are great plans to choose from.
Once you’ve installed the Akismet plugin through the WordPress repository, you simply have to follow the steps to connect your website to its platform.
Once you’re setup, your visitors will be able to comment on your posts while Akismet protects them from spam.
